What to expect?

Half-way between Ishkashim and Langar, Darshay is a perfect stop-over for those who don't want to run up the Wakhan corridor but want to get a bit of the atmosphere of this highly historical valley. The Wakhan is indeed full of archaeological points of interest, as much as it is a still living witness of the Great Game in which it had to take part during the XIXth century. Looking over the Panj, on the Afghan side, will remind you to which extent the life of simple people can be affected by political decisions that have been made more than 100 years ago... Although sharing a language (wakhi), a religion (ismailism), a culture and a history, people from "the other side" nowadays have a totally different way of life than the one on the modern tajik side...
